Xavier Townsend – Speed kills

Xavier-Townsend-8When I first encountered this 10 year old football phenom, he was slashing through defenders like a box cutter through cardboard at the Xtreme-league spring tournament. At that time, young Mr. Townsend would face a fierce team in the well-respected Fair Oaks Rattlers.
Talk about a test!! The Rattlers were loaded; Lead by Qb Joquez Smith and a running back that was so popular and spectacular he went by two letters….“A.J.”

Little did I know that I was in for a surprise!

X, as we call him, on Saturdays went off like a fire alarm and made a profound statement …”he is an elite youth running back!” Don’t believe me? Check out his Youtube highlights.

Xavier-Townsend-4Xavier is a two way player. As a defensive back, he is a blanket and I’ve never seen anyone throw a go route that he couldn’t cover. Xavier is a Tampa native, born December 6, 2003. The youngest of two with a 6 year age gap, he is very competitive with older brother Trevon Townsend, yet they remain very close. They’re both students of the game of football. Trevon is headed out of state to continue his football career, and X will be rooting for him.

X comes from a family of athletes that includes Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer James Wilder, is and his mom Pamela which is where he gets his blazing speed from. She can tell you a little something about the 100 and 200 meter… those were her events at Sun Coast high school!
Pam also designs Xavier’s training program which consists of sled work and plenty of plyometrics.  Xavier Townsend is listed as the #24 player from the class of 2022 according to the National Sports Report due to his incredible speed and instincts on both sides of the ball.  We look forward a great 2016 season from this young stud and for him to continue proving the Speed kills
